GOOD DESIGN® Awards 2020

Alessi wins the 2020 GOOD DESIGN® Awards with Doraff designed by Ben van Berkel, Plico by Richard Sapper, Caffa by Giulio Iacchetti

Alessi announces the recognition of three key projects designed by as many prominent figures of the international Design scene in the 2020 GOOD DESIGN® Awards: Doraff by Ben van Berkel for the 'Children products' category, Plico by Richard Sapper for the ‘Furniture’ category, Caffa by Giulio Iacchetti for the ‘Tabletop’ category.

Playfulness and invitation to explore are the two complementary aspects of Doraff, the object designed by Ben van Berkel/UNStudio. A multifunctional and colorful item that children can use to imagine riding a giraffe or playing with their dog. The seat can also easily be flipped as needed, turning into a small table suitable for painting or having a snack. Raising awareness of parents and new generations on the issue of sustainability, “Doraff” is made in Italy with a 100% recyclable thermoplastic resin.

With the new version of Plico, the folding trolley designed by Richard Sapper in the mid 1970’s, Alessi introduces an element destined to become a furnishing accessory icon, a new little “Sapper-like” masterpiece. Exceptionally handy, composed by two shelves and a steel frame, Plico is extremely compact: once folded, takes up very little space. In terms of functionality, this item goes far beyond a simple food trolley, revealing an extreme versatility, easily transforming into a handy night stand, a side table or a practical workstation with a surface for laptops.

Caffa is a thermal mug designed by Giulio Iacchetti which perfectly maintains the temperature of the drink contained, whether hot or cold, allowing its use on multiple occasions. Caffa, whose name is inspired by the region of Ethiopia where the culture of coffee finds its roots, is made of stainless steel with a vacuum cavity that maintains the temperature. The cylindrical base shape widens into a conical one easily assembled with different supports. The easy-to-open lid completes its functionality.
